Going over the collection of embroideries that I had at our NEOS exhibition, I see to my dismay that I seem to be doing the same things over and over again - colourful birds in green bushes, fish in Celtic scrolls embellished with Mylar - always the same things. I MUST find some other sources of inspiration.
Since I’ve realised this I’ve begun to work on some definitely different things, but they’re not yet finished, so for the time being I’ll just have to post some of the “old school” designs and hope that too many people don’t unsubscribe in weariness at the same old stuff
So here are yet more fish with Mylar, in the same familiar style. I can’t seem to keep away from Mylar fish, and they do look very appealing. These were one of my most popular pieces at the exhibition and commanded a lot of attention - most people just couldn’t imagine what gave the fish that interesting shine - and the framed picture eventually found a new home
Do they look familiar?
Anyway, now that the show is over for this year it's back to normal design life, and I'll now work on a freebie or two for next week
Complicated and yet so simple! Love it!

Really stunning. The mylar captures the iridescent scales perfectly and the Celtic scrolls are reminiscent of the swirling water.

It's good to do new things, but your fish are pretty amazing.

When I have trouble deciding what to make, I look at Pinterest or Etsy and fill my mind with lots of new possibilities. I look for trendy items and see if there is anything that stirs the pot. I keep photos of some that I liked and reset my compass for new destinations. I try not to let myself even look at the old items so that the new and fresh ideas fill me up.
Pick a color from your threads and use it to make a new item, even if it is not really that color, use it anyway, start fresh and don’t look back.

I'm kinda thinkin' "Hey, if the machine's workin', don't fix it." If the fish & birds attract a lot of attention and sell (isn't that the goal?) then keep up the good work. But it wouldn't hurt to add a pretty Stargazer Lily or Hyacinth garden to your arsenal, right? ;}

First of all, I would like to thank you for all those numerous beautiful freebies you have given us so generously over the years! You developed them with all your imagination combined with your expertise in biology. Exactly this combination was the reason I was hooked by them at the first moment I' ve discovered your work of art. In my opinion, this "team" of scientifical knowledge and creativity is unbeatable and makes your work unique. Could it be a way to reflect for a moment on your scientific roots? Perhaps this could be a source of inspiration, and you could find within colors, shapes and patterns that are just waiting for being converted in a piece of art. Possibly, playing with your discoveries could bring you artistic fulfilment. With this in mind, my best wishes for your creative journey!
